About Adjunkt — The Freelancer’s Assitant

I am designing and developing Adjunkt from the ground–up to be a free and easy to use tool for the freelancer. You’ll be able to run Adjunkt from your own web server, either locally, or on your hosting provider (I am also entertaining the idea of planned hosting packages, but that’s as far as I’ve gotten with that).

I plan to release Adjunkt in two major variants, each with two minor variants. The major variants are PHP based and Ruby on Rails based. The minor variants are a separate database server of your choice (such as MySQL or PostgreSQL), or a stand–alone SQLite database.

Why go to all of the trouble? Portability and freedom of choice. Plus, I like to learn new things and expand on what I already know. I haven't yet decided on a PHP Framework to use, I'm still evaluating to decide which would be the best for this project. If you are a developer and you'd like to help out, please , I'd love to have the help.

I don’t currently have a release date planned, or even a schedule set–up, as this is a personal side project, so I don't yet know what my availability will be, but I am hoping to have the first public beta available by Fall 2009.

About the Logo

The word adjunkt is German for asistant, which is really what this app is being designed to do, assist freelancers in the day–to–day business operations of their businesses, giving them more time to do what they love to do, moving them forward. That's the arrow intertwined with the word, moving forward. Maybe a little cheesy, but I like it :). The font is the much loved Helvetica, clean, simple and easy to read.
